Manuka Honey
Bees gather Manuka honey from the Manuka flower (leptospermum scoparium). The Maori an dearly European settlers used the oils and honey from the Manuka flowers and leaves for many medicinal purposes and were well aware of the healing results from topical application of these extracts.
Recent studies at the Waikato University have released results of their investigations using Manuka Honey. Dr Peter Molan from the dept. of Biological Sciences at the Waikato University of NZ, is a world authority in researching the extraordinary factors and benefits of Manuka Honey. While hydrogen peroxide,a proven antiseptic is present in all natural honey, some Manuka Honey has additional antibacterial properties, a unique manuka factor.
Like all pure honeys, Manuka honey has some anti bacterial properties; this activity is due to the hydrogen peroxide component, which is created from the activity in the honey of the enzyme glucose oxidase. Active Manuka honey offers an additional antibacterial Manuka factor not found in any other honey, it is this dditional antibacterial component that is responsible for Active Manuka Honeys potent therapeutic properties.
Active Manuka honey is tested at qualified laboratories, under the guidelines of the Waikato Universities methods, for its anti-bacterial components, this is indicated on the label by a number + after testing.
CResults Organic Manuka Honey has been laboratory tested for the presence of the unique non peroxide activity and has been rated and certified as Active Manuka Honey. UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) is the independent stamp of approval set by the UMF association in New Zealand .
